About the Program

This program is the fruit of many years of experience as a guide through the streets of this great, immortal city. Whether you prefer to call her Istanbul, Constantinople, or Byzantium, they all continue to coexist here, and perhaps "The City" sums her up best. I have designed the program with the goal of allowing visitors to feel and experience this timeless City as I do; to gain a thorough understanding of her. Not as the locals do, for they are not aware of the City. But rather strolling through her narrow, winding streets in search of ancient monuments, popping into tea houses with breath-taking views, relaxing in a carefully hidden centuries-old medrese and enjoying tea served in tiny little glasses or some other traditional drink, or eating in the little local restaurants with their excellent food…in short, living in the city as I live here.

THIS IS A WALKING TOUR.
The tours will proceed downhill and move at a leisurely pace, so they are not tiring; but you should be well and fit to join this tour.(Those who wish to take the tour but are unable to walk for long distances can still take the tour, as the car will be with us day and night, but in this case you may miss one or two sites which may be inaccessable via minibus.) Remember to bring comfortable walking shoes; and for winter tours, raincoats and waterproof walking shoes, in case of rain or snow.

The Old City gets very lonely and quiet in the evening, so, I have decided in favor of a hotel in the New City, Beyoglu. The throbbing heart of modern Istanbul, it will invite you walk around, mingle with the locals and observe city life when you're on your own. It will also save you from asking the question, "Where are the women NAZLI?" for the hotel is near the "Grand Rue de Pera," the main shopping district of modern Istanbul, and women are in abundance there.

I will guide the tours, but if circumstances require, you may have a guide other than myself.
